This method, which is our oldest and most popular, heavily weighs factors (147 out of 629) related to the wealth of institutions (like endowment) in its ranking. In our offices it is known as the "DD Method" where the initials "DD" stand for "Dialing for Dollars" (contrary to popular opinion, CRS does have a sense of humor).

Others have noted that this method produces results that look strikingly similar to those of our chief competitor, US News and World Report (USNWR), and have made the claim that both CRS and USNWR are using an algorithm that consists of a random number generator weighted by endowment dollars per student. Both CRS and USNWR deny these accusations.
